VFW Freezes Family out of Their Home

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

This is a very sad story that is local and personal to me. A Waterford, NY family forced from their home under very suspicious circumstances by the VFW made the local paper The Troy Record in November. There is now much more to this story on eNewsAlerts.com. The town of Waterford couldn’t even condemn the terrible action.

To sum it up, a broken water line leading to the property was cobbed up by the tenant’s VFW landlord earlier in the year and the family was led to believe it would be repaired right up until November when they were told they would not fix it. The cob job was a garden hose stretched across the property from the local VFW. Then they told them they were evicting them because it was not profitable enough to them to fix it.

The family did not even have time to fight the action because the garden hose was no match for winter, which was a perfect checkmate for the VFW, who had the family living under an illegal setup for months. The family was then left with no recourse, but to flee, throwing out many of their possessions and leaving their home of 27 years. Had the family been told sooner they would have at least had a reasonable time to find other living arrangements. It was quite a Christmas present. The mayor of Waterford, Bert Mahoney, who is allegedly behind the action has been silent on the matter. You have to wonder if these people have hearts. Shame on the VFW and the town of Waterford, NY. Shame indeed.

Barack Obama: Don’t Think We’re Not Keeping Score, Brother

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

The Hill reported another scary quote from Barack Obama. His comment was directed at Democrat Rep. Peter DeFazi, who considers himself a progressive populist and has a reputation for not being easily intimidated:

“Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother.”

These kinds of comments are especially scary, given the number of people Barack Obama and the democrat leadership have paid off to vote for the health care money grab. The most recent paid off were Senator Ben Nelson and Senator Bernie Sanders. In the world of Barack Obama it seems you can either buy people off or scare them off.

Barack Obama’s Historically Low Approval Rating Brings About George W. Bush-Like Quotes

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Barack Obama’s 47% approval rating is the lowest of any president this early in their presidency. Compare that poll to George W. Bush’s rating of 86% and you can see why the Nobel Prize Obama acceptance speech sounded more like George W. Bush than it did the anti-war president:

“A nonviolent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies. Negotiations cannot convince al-Qaida’s leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism, it is a recognition of history”

Most rational people already knew that, but coming from Obama that is quite a turnaround. It may be the wisest thing he has ever said.

“No matter how justified, war promises human tragedy.”

For some reason that truth did not apply to George W. Bush. By the way, despite being the victim of  the biggest media aided smear campaign of all time, 44% now prefer Mr. Bush to Barack Obama. Ouch!

“The belief that peace is desirable is rarely enough to achieve it.”

That is a blow to the anti-war radical activists who claim all you have to do is be nice to the enemies of America and then you can lay down your arms.

“Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize - my accomplishments are slight.”

An understatement, but so true. It was only about 8 months into Obama’s presidency when it was announced he had won this. He had only been president for about 2 weeks when he was nominated. You might wonder why? I’ll address that in another blog post. In the meantime, welcome to reality Mr. Obama. Even if it was only a political reality.

Donald Rumsfeld: The President’s Assertion Does a Disservice to the Truth

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had some harsh words for Barack Obama following Obama’s speech explaining his decision to send 30,000 of the military’s requested 40,000 troops to Afghanistan.

Barack Obama said in his speech: “Throughout this period, our troop levels in Afghanistan remained a fraction of what they were in Iraq. Commanders in Afghanistan repeatedly asked for support to deal with the reemergence of the Taliban, but these reinforcements did not arrive.”

That statement angered Mr. Rumsfeld who is asking Congress to review Obama’s claims in order to to “determine exactly what requests were made, who made them, and where and why in the chain of command they were denied.”

It appears the Obama camp was not prepared for a challenge to the President’s comments as White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs claimed that Obama was referring to requests that came during 2008. That would make Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates the culprit.

“Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as secretary of defense, deserves a response. I am not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006.”

The president’s assertion does a disservice to the truth and, in particular, to the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought, served and sacrificed in Afghanistan.” — Donald Rumsfeld
